Thai National Parks and Wildlife Sanctuaries

Here’s an updated list of the Thai national parks and wildlife sanctuaries either featured in our All Points East tours or regularly included in our extensions or tailor-made trips. (We may have overlooked some so, apologies to the park in question if we have.)

North-East and Eastern Thailand

Pha Taem National Park, Ubon Ratchathani. Overlooking the Mekong River in far eastern Thailand, highlights are the unusual mushroom rock formations and the remarkably well-preserved ancient petroglyphs. Features on The Emerald Triangle and Thailand World Heritage tours.

Khao Yai NP, Nakhon Ratchasima. Jungle hikes, fantastic scenery and abundant wildlife including elephants, gibbons, hornbills and myriad other bird species. This UNESCO World Heritage Site also features on our Thailand World Heritage and Emerald Triangle tours.

Mu Koh Chang National Marine Park, Trat. Resort stays, boat trips, snorkelling, hiking, and diving options. The park includes no less than 52 islands and features on our Ruined Cities and Tropical Islands family tour as well as various beach extension options.

Central/Western Thailand

Sai Yok National Park, Kanchanaburi.  Hiking, kayaking and waterfall visits. Situated aside the River Kwai, appears on the South Thailand tour, Mountains and Rainforests, both our Thailand family tours  Jungles and Islands and Reefs and Rainforests as well as our Kanchanaburi extension or mini-tour.

Thung Yai Naresuan Wildlife Sanctuary, Kanchanaburi. Another UNESCO World Heritage Site, Thung Yai and adjacent national parks in the far west of the country, form Thailand’s largest protected area. Hiking, camping, rafting, village visits on our tailor-made tours as well as our Kanchanaburi extension.

Erawan National Park, Kanchanaburi. Home to one of the country’s most famous and picturesque waterfalls, Erawan is also included on our Kanchanaburi extension

Kaeng Krachan National Park, Phetchaburi. 3,000 square kilometres of forested hills along the Myanmar border is home to elephants. tigers, leopards and some 300 bird species. Thailand’s largest park was added to UNESCO’s World Heritage list in 2021 and is a regular inclusion on our tailor-made tours.

North Thai National Parks

Doi Suthep, Doi Pui National Park, Chiang Mai. Famous for prestigious Wat Doi Suthep and the spectacular views over Chiang Mai City, Doi Suthep is also great for hiking and bird watching. It features on our Chiang Mai extension as well as being an optional half day tour on any of our Thai or Thailand and Laos tours which provide some time at leisure in ‘The Rose of the North’.

Doi Inthanon National Park, Chiang Mai. At over 2,500m, Thailand’s highest mountain provides some great hikes as well as dramatic waterfalls. A regular feature on our tailor-made tours.

South Thai National Parks

Mu Koh Chumphon National Park, Chumphon. A visit to Koh Chumphon is included in our Thai family tour, Reefs and Rainforests with a mangrove boardwalk, stunning beaches and great views of the scenic offshore islands.

Khao Sok National Park, Surat Thani. Home to some of Thailand’s and indeed Southeast Asia’s most spectacular scenery our visits include a boat tour of awe-inspiring Cheow Lan Lake, nature hikes, tubing and a visit to a nearby elephant sanctuary. Appears on our South Thailand Mountains and Rainforests tour and family special, Jungles and Islands.

Khao Luang National Park. Lush rainforest and dramatic waterfalls a short drive from Nakorn Si Thammarat City. Also included on our Mountains and Rainforests itinerary.

Thale Noi Non-Hunting Area, Phattalung. Picturesque lotus-covered inland sea and one of Southeast Asia’s most important bird sanctuaries. Our Mountains and Rainforests includes an overnight stay in a delightful lakeside resort.

Hat Chao Mai National Marine Park, Trang. A day exploring the spectacular karst scenery, mangroves and pristine beaches along the Andaman Sea Coast features in Jungles and Islands family tour and Mountains and Rainforests.

Mu Koh Lanta National Park, Krabi. Koh Lanta is one of our suggestions for beach extensions to any of our tours finishing in South Thailand.

Mu Koh Petra National Marine Park, Trang/Satun. Spectacular limestone islands and shallow reefs make Koh Petra National Park ideal for boat and snorkelling tours from nearby Koh Libong.
