Koh Mak
4-day extension to a beautiful and unspoilt tropical island in the Gulf of Thailand
Stay on Thailand's tranquil and picturesque Koh Mak
Koh Mak; a wonderful and still largely unspoilt island lying in the eastern part of the Gulf of Thailand just south of its more famous neighbour Koh Chang. We reckon Koh Mak is the perfect compromise with enough of a tourist infrastructure to keep visitors comfortable, well-fed and occupied but without the over the top commercialism of some of the busier islands.
Don’t head to Koh Mak expecting wild night-life or jet-ski races across the bay but if you are looking for a relaxed spot with uncrowded and unspoilt beaches, plenty of great fresh and well-prepared seafood, lashings of ice-cold beers and friendly locals then this island hits the spot. There’s also plenty to do for the more active other than lie on the beach or sup cocktails by the pool: explore Koh Mak’s traffic-free lanes and villages or take a boat and snorkelling tour through the nearby national marine park. Our choice of resort is a comfortable, low-key, mid-range spot with private chalet-style accommodation.
Koh Mak is around a 45-minute speedboat ride from the pier at Laem Ngop which in turn is a short drive from Trat Airport which offers several daily departures for the 45-minute hop to Bangkok International Airport. As such Koh Mak is a convenient extension to any trip ending in Bangkok. The boat pier at Laem Ngop can also be conveniently reached from the Cambodian town of Battambang making it a potential add-on to any of our Cambodia tours as well, for anyone looking for some quality beach and island time after visiting the temples of Angkor. (Driving time from Battambang to the border at Pailin is approximately 1 hour followed by 2 more from the border to the boat jetty.
Our rates are based on 2 persons sharing (twin or double chalet) while for single travellers the price is £525. Discounts for larger groups or families are of course available. (Please note price includes return flights from Bangkok to Trat Airport.)
