Jakarta Extension
Spend a few days exploring Indonesia's often hectic and bustling, but always fascinating, capital
Try a 4-day extension to Jakarta before your Java tour
For those with the time and inclination why not try our 4 day, 3 night Jakarta extension prior to the start of your Java Overland tour in Central Java’s Yogyakarta.
Indonesia’s capital city is certainly huge and bustling, often hectic and congested but, in our opinion, always fascinating and on this exciting Jakarta mini-tour, we’ll show you some of our favourite highlights – famous and lesser-known ones. Discover Glodok, the City’s vibrant Chinatown area; the fascinating National Museum and Jakarta’s traditional port district, Sunda Kelapa as well as the old colonial Dutch quarter of Batavia, now known as Kota Tua and the ultra-modern and truly spectacular Istiqlal Mosque – considered to be the largest in Southeast Asia.
In keeping with our usual style the city tour also offers plenty of opportunities to discover Jakarta’s vibrant street-life, meet some of the very friendly inhabitants and, last but not least, sample some of the sumptuous and highly varied local cuisine!
The extension is perhaps ideally fitted in en-route to Yogyakarta (most international flights travel via Singapore with its numerous connecting flights) for our 2-week Java tour, although should scheduling be more convenient it can also be slotted in post-tour with a domestic flight from our finishing point Denpasar to Jakarta.
Our extension price includes return airport transfers in Jakarta, 3 nights at Harris Vertu Hotel (or similar), all entrance fees, activities, guide services and meals as indicated but due to highly fluctuating pricing (and exchange rates), the short domestic flight from Jakarta to Yogyakarta is not included and is available from approximately £55. The Jakarta extension is based upon 2 persons sharing so please ask for a single person supplement for solo travellers and reductions for families and larger groups.
(Last but certainly not least, many thanks to Sally Arnold for offering the use of her excellent Jakarta photographs.)
