Gili Isles Lombok

Complete your Java and Sumatra tours with a stay on Lombok's lush, coral-fringed tropical island of Gili Air

A 5-day, 4-night extension to Lombok Island's Gili Air

After hiking through the Sumatran rainforest, climbing Mt Bromo before breakfast, exploring Java’s World Heritage ancient ruins and cycling through farms and villages in Yogyakarta, why not finish your Indonesia tour with some quality beach and island time on Lombok’s delightful Gili Air?

The 5-day, 4-night extension conveniently begins in Sanur – finishing point of our Java Overland and Sumatra to Bali tours – so no extra land transfers are required. An overnight stay in Sanur allows you to catch the morning direct speedboat from Bali to Gili Air and we can drop you right outside your hotel.

We’re suggesting a 3-night stay on the island itself, but the length of your island extension is entirely up to you. Our choice – availability permitting – is the comfortable, low-key, 4* Gili Air Lagoon Resort with a great beachside location and excellent facilities. Once on the island – apart from checking out glorious sunsets from the beach or sampling poolside cocktails – a wide range of activities are available. These include scuba diving (for beginners and the experienced) and snorkelling trips, (including a tour of the unusual underwater sculpture garden), visits to the other, nearby Gili Isles or checking out the island’s turtle sanctuary. Alternatively, after sampling the fare in Java and Sumatra, why not try your hand at an Indonesian cookery class?

The ideal time to visit the Gili Isles is generally considered to be the April to October period as the annual rainy season falls between November and March although unfortunately, like much of the planet, weather patterns are becoming increasingly less reliable of late. The resort is open all year and in the tropics, it doesn’t rain all day of course, although weather conditions may cause delays with boat transfers. If your schedule is tight then a beach extension on Bali itself during the rainy season may be a better option.
