Day 1 - Phnom Penh - arrival and introductory walking tour

Check-in to a small, boutique-style hotel followed by an introductory, walking tour to provide a first-hand feel for the city’s vibrant and photogenic street-life as well as offering some initial tips on portrait and market photos. We’ll take in the old French Quarter and riverfront finishing perhaps with sundowners at the famous FCC – Foreign Correspondents Club? A welcome dinner introduces you to the region’s little-known but delicious cuisine.

Day 2 - Phnom Penh - city tour

Day tour combining some of the iconic sites of Cambodia’s fascinating capital city – the infamous Killing Fields, highly moving Khmer Rouge Genocide Museum and the picturesque Royal Palace and Silver Pagoda  – with less frequently seen backstreet, local market and everyday scenes.

Day 3 - Phnom Penh - a visit to 'Silk Island'

Morning visit to the narrow and bustling streets of the Olympic Market area before heading off in the afternoon to nearby Koh Dach (Silk Island). Though just a short from downtown, it’s a world away and allows us to experience local village life as well as an opportunity to discover the traditional silk weaving methods still employed on this picturesque Mekong River island.

Day 4 - On the road - up-country to Siem Reap

Upcountry through Cambodia’s scenic countryside to the provincial town of Siem Reap in Western Cambodia. Stops on the way include the famous ‘spider village’ of Skuon, and a rarely visited but well preserved 11th-century temple with of course plenty of landscapes, rural scenes and ‘on the road’ images on the way. A sunset visit to Prei Rup Temple completes our day.

Day 5 - Siem Reap - dawn at Angkor Wat

Angkor, with its vast jungle-clad temples and mysterious stone carvings, is certainly one of the region’s most evocative and photogenic destinations! We’ll begin with sunrise followed by a comprehensive tour of iconic Angkor Wat before a break in Siem Reap to escape the midday glare. Afternoon walking tour of Angkor Tom,  Leper King Terrace, Phimeanakas, the Elephant Terrace, Baphuon and, last but not least, (we’ll wait until the crowds have gone), the dramatic Bayon Temple with its famous faces.

Day 6 - Siem Reap - jungle temples

Short forest hike to take in the spectacular vistas of hill-top Phnom Bakheng Temple before a visit to Preah Khan. Dense jungle, huge roots and squawking parakeets make this atmospheric temple a consistent favourite. After a break in Siem Reap, the day continues with a jungle walk to Ta Keo via the remote and rarely visited Ta Nei Temple. A visit to famous Ta Prom, the ‘Tomb Raider’ temple, continues our jungle theme and concludes our day.

Day 7 - Siem Reap - Beng Melea, a remote site

Morning trip to one of the more remote, but most photogenic and impressive Angkor monuments – the atmospheric, jungle-clad ruins of Beng Melea. Opportunities to take in the countryside and village scenes on the return to Siem Reap and an afternoon at leisure, Relax by the pool, check out the spa or explore the local markets with your camera.

Day 8 - Siem Reap to Battambang - scenic river journey

Spectacular boat journey across the Tonle Sap Lake, past the flooded forest and Prek Toal bird sanctuary. On down the Sangkar River with its highly photogenic, floating fishing villages and stilt-houses to the town of Battambang. Stops on the way include the Prek Toal community water hyacinth weaving project.

If water levels are too low during the dry season, a part of today's trip may be by road.

Day 9 - Battambang - village life

Morning tour by tuk-tuk through the surrounding villages to discover the area’s traditional cottage industries and handicrafts. Plenty of opportunities to meet the friendly residents as well as sample their products. The afternoon is at leisure to explore the friendly provincial town or just watch the world go by and capture some street scenes from a coffee shop terrace.

Day 10 - Battambang to Phnom Penh - overland to the capital

Travelling east our first stop will be the lively and colourful market in Pursat Town offering plenty of photo opportunities, the chance to check out the weird and wonderful produce on display as well as meet some of the friendly locals. Moving on, we’ll stop at the fascinating river port of Kompong Chhnang and explore the bustling riverfront before continuing to our day’s final destination, Phnom Penh.

Day 11 - Phnom Penh - morning at leisure and end of tour

Morning de-briefing session and an opportunity to look at some important editing and post-production techniques. Afternoon end of the tour and departure at your leisure.
