Flores and Komodo

Hike in the rainforest, stay in a mountain village and take a 2-day boat cruise through Komodo National Park

A 1-week mini-tour or extension to Flores and the Komodo Islands

Our 1-week mini-tour or extension, Flores and Komodo, is suitable as an add-on to our Java Overland or Sumatra to Bali tours or, perhaps combined with an island stay in Lombok, as a short stand-alone trip.

This Flores and Komodo trip includes return flights from Bali to Labuan Bajo and, as both of the above-mentioned tours finish at Denpasar International Airport, this negates the need for any overland transfers before or after. Depending upon flight schedules, however, an extra night before or after in Sanur (close to the airport) may be advisable.

The tour includes a half-day jungle hike into the mountains of Flores Island’s interior and an overnight stay in the traditional-style mountain village of Wae Rebo. In the morning we hike back down the mountain and continue by road, via the unique ‘spiderweb’ pattern paddy-fields of Cancar to remote Ruteng Village for our night’s accommodation. The third day of our Flores adventure sees a return to Labuan Bajo with a visit on the way to the famous ‘Hobbit Cave’, Liang Bua, where vestiges of the diminutive hominid Homo Floresiensis, or Flores Man, were first discovered.

The second section of our tour takes us on a 2-day, 1-night sailing boat cruise through UNESCO World Heritage Komodo National Park. Our boat trip also takes us island-hopping through Kelor and Kalang National Parks with visits to mangrove swamps, swimming and snorkelling on coral reefs, stops at spectacular, scenic viewpoints and, of course, a hike to visit the famous dragons themselves.

We’ll return to our hotel in Labuan Bajo late afternoon on day 6 with a return flight to Bali’s Denpasar at your convenience the following day. Depending upon your departure time from Denpasar, an extra night in Sanur is also available at the end of your trip.

A fascinating and highly varied 1-week exploration of some of the vast Indonesian Archipelago’s remoter parts.

Includes: Flights: return Denpasar to Labuan Bajo. Meals: B x 7, L x 4, D x 2
