Images of Phnom Penh | Street Photography Tour
A 2-day Cambodia street photography workshop
Take in the local markets & backstreets of Cambodia's vibrant capital
Images of Phnom Penh is designed as an introductory tour – not only to travel and street photography but also as to photography in Cambodia in general, while for more experienced photographers we’ll try and ensure you get to the right place at the right time. Long-term Phnom Penh resident and highly experienced travel photographer Jeff Perigois will show you a warts and all view of the city that he loves and knows so well, from picturesque pagodas and old French period architecture to the crowded back alleys, bustling local markets and surrounding villages.
We’re calling it a ‘workshop’ for want of a better word but our 2-day Cambodian street photography course will be mainly hands-on and will take place principally on the streets and in the markets. After an introductory talk by Jeff, you’ll head off to one of the local markets for some lunch and take it from there. On day 2 we’ll take you out to the famous silk-weaving island of Koh Dach – only a few kilometres distant but a world away from the bustling city. Here you’ll have a chance to discover traditional village life, some of the local cottage industries and meet the friendly locals. Returning to Phnom Penh in the afternoon, Jeff will run through some useful post-production and editing techniques with you.
Note that as the tour is designed as a private one the precise itinerary is flexible and exact timing and sites can be discussed on arrival with Jeff. Images of Phnom Penh is suitable for any tour starting or finishing in the Cambodian capital includes any of our Cambodia or Vietnam to Cambodia itineraries.
The price is per person based on two people sharing while it is also available for a single traveller at a cost of £425 or for larger groups at a reduced price. Accommodation can, of course, be included if desired.
Itinerary
Here's an idea of what you can expect to do and see day-to-day.
Day 1 - Phnom Penh - street photography
Morning introductory talk by Jeff with some tips and advice for street, market and people photography as well as a brief rundown on ‘all things Phnom Penh’. We’ll then head off for one of the City’s busy local markets before an afternoon of practical street photography. The exact itinerary will depend upon group make-up, day of the week, what the weather and light are doing etc, so it’s a very much a ‘play it by ear’ programme but one that will let you get the most out of Jeff’s encyclopaedic knowledge of his city.
Overnight: Not included Transport: Taxi, Walk,
Day 2 - Koh Dach - off to a Mekong Island
Out into the surrounding villages and the Mekong River island of Koh Dach. Although it is only a few miles out of town, you’ll find a place with no sealed roads, no cars and a still, a very traditional lifestyle. Visit the local cottage industries and meet the super friendly inhabitants. In the afternoon we’ll return to Phnom Penh where Jeff will provide some help and tips on post-production and editing work.
