Can’t go wrong really with giant roots and towering trees, mysterious carvings and jungle-clad ruins so here’s another selection of photos of Preah Khan and Ta Prom temples in Cambodia’s Angkor temple complex, taken on our recent Saigon to Angkor Overland small group tour. Preah Khan, as with the more high profile Ta Prom, is a late 12th century Buddhist…

Well at least the Cambodia section of the trip since in fact Dan and Sara, having signed up for the Indochina Adventure, had already travelled through Northern Thailand and Laos for a couple of weeks and Yvette was doing Cambodia as part of a Saigon to Phnom Penh Overland tour. First pic then is from Phnom Penh’s riverside Titanic Restaurant…

We’ll round up our series on Western Cambodia’s Sangkar River with a selection of landscapes of the highly picturesque river. Do feel that photos, or at least our photos, don’t really do the scenery justice though. It’s not like trying to capture a beach, mountain or say sunset – these are such broad vistas and wide landscapes; marshes and waterscapes…

Following on from our bird-life  of the Sangkar River post here’s a selection of some of the human activity we’ve photographed on recent trips along this spectacular and picturesque river in western Cambodia:         ….whilst most of the remaining images seem to fall into the ‘small kids in charge of boats’ category which never ceases to amaze…

A few photos of some of the spectacular bird-life we’ve come across on recent boat trips down western Cambodia’s Sangkar River. The Sangkar River begins in the mountains to the…

Yes they are somewhat voyeuristic photos and the locals thought we were plain crazy but we actually like the bright colours and forms in these shots we took recently of washing drying on the floating houses of Prek Toal Village. Prek Toal is located on the Sangkar River in Western Cambodia’s Battambang Province.         All photographa were…

Plenty of great markets to wander around in Vietnam and indeed the wet market across the river from Can Tho is also a favourite but we do particularly like this market because it is one of the increasingly rare, genuine ‘floating’ ones. The famous Damnoen Saduak market near Bangkok – featured on innumerable postcards and TAT ads, (Tourism Authority of…

We’re talking about the Tonle Sap riverbank market in the central Kompong Chnang waterfront area – a small provincial town and capital of the province of the same name some 2 hrs north of Phnom Penh.  Ok don’t think we’ve ever actually bought anything there but it is our favourite market to wander around – and that’s in a country…

The Royal Enclosure is  a walled-off area slightly to the north and west of the centre of Angkor Tom and which housed the palace complex of the Angkor kings. The palace itself was constructed of wood so nothing remains except for said surrounding walls which were constructed out of laterite, the sandstone-clad entrance gopuras and some stone lined bathing pools. …
