A few of Jean-Daniel’s Jungles and Islands tour photos from his recent trip to Southern Thailand. The trip begins in Bangkok before heading up to Kanchanaburi on the famous ‘Death Railway’, followed by a kayak trip down the picturesque Kwai River and a chance to ride some elephants through the jungle. After that a night sleeper train takes us south to Surat Thani Province where we spend 3 days exploring the spectacular, and very photogenic, scenery plus exotic jungle flora and fauna, of Khao Sok National Park.
Above is the Chiao Lan Lake where the damming of a limestone valley has created a kind of Halong Bay of the jungle! We travel across the lake by bamboo raft in the midst of virgin rainforest and jagged mountain peaks.
No crocs, piranhas or lake monsters that we know of so on a hot day it’s perfect for a refreshing dip in the clear cool waters.
With a tropical storm brewing in the late afternoon the group beat a hasty retreat to the sanctuary of the resort bar!
Moving on to something completely different – a cracking shot that JD included is this very tempting dim sum selection from a Chinese/Thai cafe in Nakorn Si Thammarat town. Accompanied by local coffee or China tea dim sum is most frequently eaten as breakfast. (Though that looks like a good selection of snacks for any time in the day really!)
Photo 6 is an odd one and I’m not sure many people would guess the object without the aid of our caption. It is in fact a partially opened giant clam revealing its brilliant blue interior taken on a snorkelling trip off Koh Kradan Island, Trang Province.
Anyway JD reports a great fun group and apparently, a good time had by all so thanks to all the happy campers and hope to see everyone back in these parts again sometime. Thanks for the Jungles and Islands tour photos Jean-Daniel.
