Battambang’s bamboo train still going strong, Cambodia

Despite plenty of rumours to the contrary the train’s still going and no sign of the projected new rail line as yet. Yes there are plans to replace the seriously warped and now disused (except for bamboo trains) track in the future but we can’t see it happening at least for a few months and we take the ‘train drivers’ new pool table as a sign that, they at least, think the Battambang suburban bamboo special will be around for a little while longer.

At least the table's not made out of bamboo!

Nice new pool table installed in the ruins of the old French railways station. The rather complicated Battambang pool involves drawing a playing card to see which number ball you have to pot next!

The new high speed rail link sadly won’t allow much interaction with the locals and the kids will have to find other outlets for their origami talents. Below are some very cleverly made reed crickets which you’ll usually get for free if you buy a can of coke from their mothers.

Anyway as of end of June 2011 still going strong but we’ll keep you informed, cheers!
