Burma Tour Photos

A selection of Burma tour photos from our recent Discover Burma, (Myanmar) tour – a 2-week jaunt through this fabulous country taking in Rangoon, Mandalay, Bagan, Pindaya, Mount Popa, the small Shan State town of Kalaw and of course the iconic Lake Inle.

First up, day 1 and what better way to get over any jet-lag than a relaxing sunset boat cruise down the Rangoon River. Below, Barbie in conversation with our guide Win Win.

The following day was Scott Market, the famous circular train ride, Rangoon’s giant reclining Buddha and a dusk visit to the stunning Shwedagon Paya. Below, left to right: Barbie, Cari, Win Win, Sue and a hidden Helen behind.

Local style transport in Pyin U Lwin, (formerly Maymyo), a hill station a couple of hour’s drive from Mandalay. Despite what you’d imagine these somewhat kitsch stagecoaches aren’t a tourist gimmick but genuine local transport in a town that still sees relatively few visitors.

Cooling the bus down at a tea shop after the long steep climb up from Mandalay and the Irrawaddy Valley. Maymyo with its cool mountain temperatures was a popular retreat during colonial times for British residents in steamy Mandalay.

Skipping forward a few days next up is a group photo at In Dein – a picturesque ancient pagoda site a short distance up river from Inle Lake.

After our visit to the fantastic ruined chedis of In Dein, we continued with a stroll along the banks of the scenic In Dein River, heading back towards the Lake whilst completely avoiding the crowds!

And back down river by boat to Nyaung Shwe where the afternoon’s activities included wine tasting at the excellent Red Mountain Winery. A surprisingly good, French-run winery on the hill side over-looking the Lake,
