That temple again! Wat Rong Khun, Chiang Rai, Thailand

Wat Rong Khun or The White Temple, Chiang Rai featured on our Hidden Thailand and Northern Laos and the Golden Triangle tours

Apologies; minus 10 for repetition! Wat Rong Khun (more commonly known simply as The White Temple) in Thailand’s Chiang Rai Province rears its unusual head again. Now every time we visit we hesitate over leaving the camera in the minibus (as we’ve been there so many times) but every time we take it anyway and end up finding some other aspect or view of the temple to take pics of! Reckon we’ve probably exhausted it this time so below are a selection of further odd views of the unique temple we couldn’t resist posting……

Just parking the van inspired us to get the camera out since you don’t see traffic cones like these every day. Park here and you go straight to hell we think is the message!

The perils of drinking and smoking are certainly rammed down your throat at the temple and the below no smoking sign is probably the most elaborate we’ve come across.

Even the no smoking sign's a work of art!

As we mentioned before the artist has come under a lot of flack from traditionalists for his rather eclectic tastes and we doubt very much the below statue can be found anywhere in Buddhist mythology!? Since the King of Thailand himself has purchased several works by the artist though critics have had to bite their tongues somewhat.

Last week’s visit, on our Northern Laos and the Golden Triangle tour was also livened up by a visiting group of Buddhist monks who appeared as blown away by the place as any other tourists were.
